Positive Impact of Hispanic Culture In America
Many political experts believe that North America is undergoing a profound sociological transformation. Not only in terms of its traditional moral and social values, but also politically. It was not long ago that the same sex marriages and gay rights were unthinkable. People were skeptical about the propriety of divorce and abortion. The way children were raised back then was different from today. Parents saw their responsibilities differently and discipline was applied more strictly.
In this regard, it is almost the same as teacher involvement with children. Parents must respect and uphold their child’s rights. These views have changed dramatically over the past 30 years, partly because of liberalization of laws, court rulings thereof, and partly because of fragmentation of family and home, which is mainly due to a high rate of divorce and record numbers of women entering the workforce. It has had many negative effects on society and is still being fully understood. One example is young boys who, although there have been no female victims so far, randomly and without apparent motive shot and killed many of their classmates in school. It has escalated to epidemic proportions and we have not been informed about any of these massacres in the last month. What’s happening? Everyone is perplexed and asking the same question. But for the purposes of this presentation, suffice it to say that it’s sadly part of the sociological transformations and deterioration around us.
This is happening in the South. Partly, yes. Hispanic cultures are different from their Anglo counterparts in many ways. One is the vastly different visions that Latinos have about family life. This includes sex, children and their discipline. It is not that there isn’t social deterioration. For example, alarmingly high criminal rates in one of our countries. But this is due entirely to different factors than those in the North. My opinion is that drug is the most closely related and has many similarities to both sides. Second, the Anglo culture is far more relaxed in morals than it is down South.
However, there is something that is most common in Hispanic culture. It is not as prevalent up North and has profound implications for the evolution, transformation and evolution of modern society. This is the fact that, even though both parents work, there is always someone left at home to watch over the children and supervise them when they return from school. Another thing is that children in Latin-America spent less time attached to TV sets or gaming stations due to economics. This means they are less likely to be exposed to violence and the egocentric effects this can have on young boys’ minds. It seems that there have been no Latino school shootings, and in fact, in all these cases in the United States, their perpetrators are not Latinos. This could also explain why crime rates are, contrary to popular belief, 3/4 higher among Americans of other races than Hispanics. This holds true even if Latinos are grouped together, regardless of their ethnicity. Everybody who speaks Spanish is not the same race. While most Native Americans of the West, South, and Central America speak Spanish, they are often different from other Hispanics. This would have meant that the true Hispanics who are involved in crime would be much lower if this had been taken into account by the institutions tabulating crime.
It is interesting to note that Latinos, and all Spanish-speaking people, are growing at a faster rate than any other group in the United States. The West States, particularly California, Arizona, and New Mexico, have a vibrant Hispanic community that existed long before the Anglos arrived. Its population is growing faster than any other group. The crime rate has been lower in this state than it was in states with small or insignificant Hispanic population.
Other States to the East like Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Florida and Rhode Island have lower crime rates than most cities. As reported at the New York Times.
It could be concluded that Hispanic Latino culture is less likely to adapt as quickly as its Anglo counterpart and is therefore less likely to produce the aberrations we have seen lately with these young boys who, without any reason whatsoever, enter schools and begin shooting at everyone around them. Even though Latinos are more impulsive to violence than other races, they tend to be less hotheaded. This is the conclusion of statistics. Latino temperaments are believed to help them dissipate tensions that, when suppressed elsewhere, can often explode into uncontrollable anger. Uncontrollable anger is the root of all crime.
Contrary to popular belief, the United States’ Latino population is not a negative force as its leaders claim. In fact, it could prove to be a stabilizing factor to heal many of the sociological wounds that have plagued North America in recent years. People responsible for shaping society should study some of the characteristics of Latinos, especially family-wise, and make recommendations to improve North America’s social future.
